What Is IB

Structure :

The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers programmes for students between the ages of 3 and 19. These programmes are of high quality and internationally recognized for being challenging, rigorous and based on modern education research. It is a global leader in education that strives to develop global citizens who are inquirers, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. The students through IB programmes take ownership of their learning and develop future skills to help them in facing real-life challenges.

Methodology :

IB follows modern teaching pedagogy through the inquiry cycle. The elements to inquire, act and reflect motivate learners to think critically and participate in solving complex real-life problems. The teaching techniques support higher-order thinking and visible routines that enable students to take autonomy of their learning and be accountable for their actions.
IB learners are:

• Invested in global problems and finding the appropriate solutions

Programmes:

International Baccalaureate offers four programmes for students aged 3 to 19:

  • Primary Years Programme (PYP)
  • Middle Years Programme (MYP)
  • Diploma Programme (DP)
  • Career-related Programme (CP)

PYP:

The PYP is the beginning of the IB journey. It prepares students to become lifelong learners and develop a caring attitude. Students between the age of 3 and 12 are given opportunities in PYP to become culturally aware and participants in their own learning.

MYP:

This programme strengthens students’ foundation academically and motivates them to become drivers of their learning. They are encouraged to apply classroom learning to real-life situations and become confident in their skills.

DP:

It is a futuristic programme that is designed to prepare students for their careers and to bring meaningful change into society. DP further promotes inquiring nature of students and continues to make them lifelong learners so they can adjust to the needs of the dynamic world.

CP:

This is a distinctive programme that helps students blend academic subjects with professional interests to choose and follow their career paths. CP enhances the future-ready skills of learners to excel in their lives after school years.

Assessment/Evaluation:

Assessment is integral to the process of teaching and learning in IB. The authentic assessments support and measure students’ learning. The timely and effective feedback allows students to identify their strengths and work on their weaknesses while it enables the teachers to accommodate the teaching methodology. Ilmesters is authorized to deliver its three programmes which are PYP, MYP, and DP.

PYP: In PYP, students are assessed throughout the learning process through ongoing assessments. The diagnostic, formative and summative assessments are used to support students’ progress. The assessment for learning and assessments of learning provide ample opportunities to students and teachers to bring the necessary changes. Assessments used in PYP are authentic and based on project and problem solving to make it a part of the learning process.

MYP: In MYP, there is a choice to opt for internal or external eAssessments. In external assessments, students can participate in ePortfolios or onscreen examinations as a rigorous and standardized summative assessment. Students are required to complete 5 years of the MYP and eAssessments to receive a certificate of completion.

DP: DP assessments consist of two components. The first component is written examinations marked by trained professionally trained examiners while the second component is the internal assessments which are assisted by the students’ own teachers. The courses are awarded mark from 1 to 7 individually.
